Me, A name I call myself

My Story | Other People's Views

Assalamualaikum Wr. Wb.

Hi, my name is Reza Ferrydiansyah, I am 24 years old, and I am a lecturer at the Department of Informatics, Institut Teknologi Bandung , one of the finest technological institution in Indonesia. And this is my story ...

I was born on the 16 th of August 1978, there was great rejoicing in my country, flags were being hoisted, parades were ran everywhere, the nation was at joy. Unfortunately it had nothing to do with my birth, the reason the people were enjoying themselves was that it was D minus 1 to the Indonesian Independence Day celebration.

The first four years of my life was a blur, I couldn't remember any of it except that those were probably the best years of my life. In those days all I have to do is sleep, eat, and play, which is actually about the same things I do now.

Anyway on to the next stage. School, kindergarten, at the TK Dharma Wanita IKIP Malang. Not much memory there either, except I was lousy at drawing, singing, cutting, dancing, and playing, which in essential was everything they did there.

I was accepted in the PPSP school. A kind of an experimental school. I spent three years there, before the royal society for the prevention of experiments of children closed the school down. Nope just kidding, I had to go to Australia, joining my father who was taking his PhD. I had a great time in Australia, I learned English for one, and a whole lot of other things which I don't think I would ever have learned if I had stayed in Indonesia.

Finally the time came when we had to leave Australia, I vowed that I would come back. If not to Australia then to some other overseas country. Well a man can dream.

The next three years were more serious, junior high. It was fun, where we tried to learn to be adults in our blue shorts and white uniform. Believe me it wasn't convincing.

Finally the good old senior high years. A lot of things happenned there, mostly fun things, from hanging around exchanging jokes, playing basketball, to my first love ;-). Oh yeah we studied too.

Then suddenly it was the UMPTN, it was a test in which thousands of students fought over seats in the state run university. I must have done something right for me to be accepted at the ITB's informatics department.

The four years in college have been great of course. Well I'm optimist, I think everything's great. I found some new friends, unfortunately they have refused my request to put their names on my pages, it appears they are embarassed if anyone were to know that they knew me.

My studies have been great, although not an A class student, between the studies, the tests, and the assignments, I've done pretty well. I took an interest in artificial intelligence, and decided to aim my studies towards it.

All good things had to end, and so was the case with my college days. They told me to do my final project and continue with my life. Hard work, week after week of writing, staying up until late, programming, ok and gaming sometimes, but I finally did it.

In February 2001 I graduated. On one fine saturday morning, a bunch of us graduates wearing these really baggy clothing, and with a headpiece to match (the headpiece had a square thingy on top of it, I'm not sure but I think it's to keep me from getting wet in case of rain) were hereded into the sabuga building where we had to wait hours and hours to get a chance to shake hands with the rectors of the fine institution. Hey I'm not complaining, after all I did get my degree, an ST. Actually I felt sorry for the institute's senate. They have to sit there for hours three times a year

It's off to work, actually I had began working at the TIM-IF before I graduated so all I had to do was to continue on that. It only lasted about a few months after graduation. On october 2001 I was accepted to be a lecturer at the department of Informatics. So here I am now
